Jackson nephew co-guardian for singer's kids

Michigan residents may have heard that one of Michael Jackson's nephews has emerged as legal co-guardian of the pop singer's three minor children. Jackson's 82-year-old mother was initially given guardianship of the three children but has asked the nephew to share the responsibility with her. He will be paid a total of $9,000 per month for his work with the children, who are now 16, 14 and 11 years old. Jackson's mother estimates the young man spends an average of 60 to 80 hours per week with the children. Originally, Jackson's mother suggested a figure in excess of $9,000 per month as payment for the co-guardian's duties. However, Jackson's nephew rejected that offer, stating that the amount was excessive. He eventually agreed to compensation of $9,000 per month at his grandmother's urging. The request was approved by the court.
