Obtaining Debt Relief Through Bankruptcy
Among other things, we are a debt relief agency. We help people file for bankruptcy relief under the Bankruptcy Code. In most cases, our law firm assists individuals with Chapter 7 and Chapter 13 petitions.
Chapter 7 is sometimes called “liquidation” bankruptcy because any nonexempt assets are sold to help repay creditors. In return, all unsecured debts (such as medical bills and credit card debts) are discharged or canceled. In order to qualify for Chapter 7, you must first pass a means test.
Chapter 13 involves creating an interest-free repayment plan to repay a set percent of your debt over a certain period of time. Typically, the repayment plans last three to five years. After that point, any remaining unsecured debt will be erased.
