Choose The Firm That Fits Your Needs

Post Divorce Tips

  • Do not forget to change your tax withholding, if your tax exemptions change under the terms of the divorce.  Do not forget to change from married to single, as well.  Failing to make this change timely could result in you not paying enough in income taxes and owing taxes at the end of the year.
  • Make sure to change your beneficiaries on any accounts (bank, retirement, investment), motor vehicle or recreational vehicle titles, deeds (if a Lady Bird Deed), life insurance policies, etc., if your formal spouse needs to be removed.  If you intend on keeping your former spouse as a beneficiary, you will need to re-affirm your selection of the former spouse as a continuing beneficiary following the divorce.
